Psalm 139:1 - 2
O Lord, You have searched me and known me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.
Father God, when David prayed: “Search me, God, and know my heart. . . . See if there is any offensive way in me” (Psalm 139:23–24); he wasn’t suggesting You need to gather more information about us. Indeed, You are The Omniscient God who effortlessly knows and sees everything. In fact, You know our thoughts before we think them. There are no barriers to Your understanding and no mysteries before You.
Lord God, like David, we implore You to examine our hearts, not to uncover what lies inside, but to assist us. Our standard of right and wrong is set by You; You examine our hearts; and only You can understand our intentions. If Your Holy Spirit doesn’t expose and convict us of sin; we may never identify where it lurks in our hearts and minds. And we will not identity where sin manifests in our behaviors. Indeed, without The Holy Spirit, we would never be aware of the many times and ways we fail You.
Loving God, thank You for the work of the Holy Spirit who exposes our sins; summons us to repentance; and empowers us to walk worthy of our high call in Christ Jesus. Thank You for not giving up on us and for caring for us with Your unfailing love. Thank You for being the Everlasting, Omnipresent and Omnipotent God who IS. Thank You for being our Holy God. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen
