Today's Devotional

Amos 5:24 But let justice roll out like waters, And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. Holy God, today we remember and honor the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was one of the great prophetic voices for equality, justice, dignity, and respect for all who are oppressed. With grateful hearts, we remember the many reform movements that grew out of his work—work that came at great personal cost to him and to his family. Today we pray for those who serve in civil and religious authority. Help them remember that every person is created in Your image and carries inherent dignity and worth. The value You place on Your creation calls us to uplift and respect one another. Young and old, rich and poor, Black and white—all are significant in Your sight. Each of us was worth You sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life. We pray that Your Holy Spirit reminds us that You show no partiality based on nationality, race, ethnicity, or gender. To do otherwise is to turn away from Your command to love one another. Keep Your Church from the sin of silence in the face of injustice. Give us courage to speak truth, to stand firm, and to live out the values of Your Kingdom. Such faithfulness would be a fitting tribute to a life devoted to justice. Lord, we thank You for Dr. King and for all who made Christ-like sacrifices for the sake of what is right. We thank You for calling each of us to take our place and to serve You in the world. As we seek to be faithful, we pray with the prophet Amos: “Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” We offer these prayers with gratitude and hope, in the precious name of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ. Amen.
