Our Shepherd-King

Hebrews 13:20-21

20 Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, that is, Jesus our Lord, 21 equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Father God, You are our Shepherd-King—the One who provides, supports, and directs Your people along the treacherous trails of our earthly journey. John reveals You as our Good Shepherd (John 10:11); the writer of Hebrews calls You the Great Shepherd (Hebrews 13:20); and Peter names You the Chief Shepherd (1 Peter 5:4). David declares that You are the Lord, our Shepherd—and because of You, we shall not want. This morning, we rejoice and celebrate You, our Shepherd-King, simply because of who You are.

Lord, You provide glorious hope for our future and the reassurance that beyond our gloomiest days, there will be new reasons to rejoice. At times, we have no idea how to navigate the darkness and cannot imagine emerging on the other side of our struggles. Yet we hold onto the promise of new mercies and the bountiful grace that tomorrow will bring. Holy God, You are always leading us—showing us the path to victory and providing all we need for the journey.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your reassuring presence that carries us through unimaginable pain. As we begin this new day with You, we find great hope for our earthly future and anticipate the wonders of heaven that await all who belong to You. Lord God in Heaven, thank You for being our hope and peace. Thank You for Your abiding and faithful love. Thank You for being our Everlasting Shepherd-King. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
