Job 2: 11-13
12 When they looked from a distance and did not recognize him, they raised their voices and wept. And each of them tore his robe, and they threw dust over their heads toward the sky. 13 Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights, with no one speaking a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very great.
Heavenly Father, as we look around we see so much pain and suffering. We confess that sometimes the knowledge of it all seems overwhelming and more than we can bear. In our families, neighborhoods and the world, we find people impacted by fiscal hardships, war, injustice, poverty, and social unrest. Many relationships are failing under the strain and many people are living in hopeless despair. Lord, we pray for relief and direction as we negotiate the treacherous roads ahead. Our faith and our hope are in You alone.
Merciful Father, we acknowledge that only You understand the dimensions of the problems, the purpose for the pain, and the pathway to victory for those who suffer. You alone can reach beyond the vale of tears and touch hearts and minds with hope, courage, peace and strength to go on. We pray for spiritual strength and wisdom to leave the ranks of spectators and get involved. Lord, may we become Your hands, feet and voices to stand for Your truth and love. Let us make a difference for the sake of Your Great Name.
Lord, may we continually pray for all who are suffering; and please show us where we can help by providing goods, resources and services. Where there is food insecurity, need for clothing, or an absence of knowledge; let us be Your instruments who satisfy the needs. Let us be Your voice and the ones who realize that not one among us can do anything without You. Consequently, we pray that you show us what we should do and give us the words to speak. Lord, please direct us as we journey alongside those who suffer.
God, thank You for being with us always—in good times and bad. Please make us the “hand up” that You use to provide to the hurting, lost and helpless among us. Lord, let us do it for the sake of Your Great Name. In Jesus Name we pray and give thanks. Amen.
