Better to be Righteous than Right

Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

Lord, thank You for surrounding me with people who think differently. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in proving a point or defending my side, especially when emotions run high. But You remind me that conversations aren’t meant to be battle grounds—they’re opportunities to build bridges. Give me wisdom to find common ground instead of getting stuck on disagreements. Help me speak calmly, listen carefully, and remember that peace is always more powerful than pride.

Father, when I disagree with someone, help me focus on what’s being discussed, not on the person saying it. Protect me from gossip or speaking words that tear others down. Like a driver focusing on the road instead of the cars honking beside them, help me stay steady—kind, patient, and guided by Your truth. Teach me to look past people’s faults so I can see their needs and care the way You do.

And God, when I feel the urge to “win” an argument, remind me that sometimes You call me to step back. There are moments when letting go of being right shows more strength than proving a point, because it is better to be righteous than right. Winning in Your eyes means loving well, staying humble, and choosing peace over pride. Let my words and actions reflect Your heart so others see more of You in how I handle disagreement.
