1 Peter 2:9-10 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Father God, today we ask Your forgiveness for our tendency to forget our divine purpose. We who are chosen by You to become Your priests, sometimes behave in shamefully wicked ways. We are commissioned to be holy and pure for the sake of Your Name; and to show the world that we are called out of darkness into Your wonderful light. We are to show others that You have redeemed, equipped and empowered us to be Your witnesses. Yet, too often, we fail the assignment; we fail You; and we fail those to whom You send us. Lord have mercy. And please forgive.
Heavenly Father, we are only visitors on this earthly journey. And since our real home is in heaven, keep us away from the evil pleasures of this world; they are not for us. They fight against our very souls. Let us reject feelings of hatred; explosions of wrath; and the chaos that seems to follow. We pray for Your power to rid us of dishonesty, jealousy, gossip and other sinful habits. Let us put away all evil, deception, envy and fraud. Cause us, we pray, to grow in the fullness of your salvation; as we walk in Spirit and Truth before you.
Gracious God, thank You for our true identity in You. Thank You for the power of the shed blood of Jesus Christ and victory over the sin that so easily besets us. Most of all, thank You for Your sovereign rule over all creation and Your power that changes our hearts. Lord, our hearts hunger and thirst for Your righteousness. Holy God, there is none like You. In Jesus Name we pray and bless Your Holy Name. Amen.
