We've Overcome

John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

Father God, a wise person is faithful to You; depends on You; obeys Scripture because of You; and learns from You—even when You discipline us. Godly discipline is dispensed through Your love and administered for our good. It redirects us from behaviors, attitudes, and responses to life that interfere with our relationship with You. It convicts us of the things that rob us of the blessings and benefits You desire for Your children. When You allow hardships in our lives, You can use them to restore us and draw us into a closer relationship with You.

Lord, it is Your discipline that keeps us from harming ourselves and others. It helps remove our self-destructive behaviors; teaches us how to live the abundant life in Christ Jesus; instructs us as to how we should treat our fellow man; and more. Throughout our earthly journey, You carefully change us through godly discipline; sanctify us for Your earthly purposes; and groom us for an eternity with You. The goal is to make us spiritually better, and the tool is sometimes godly discipline.

Gracious God, discipline is often unpleasant; but it is necessary. It is not punishment for punishment’s sake; rather, it is loving correction that forms us, redirects us, and contributes to our sanctification. We pray for discernment to see Your hand move, even through discipline. And we pray for submissive hearts that surrender to the move of the Holy Spirit, who guides us to righteousness. We trust You as our Holy and Righteous disciplinarian. We trust You as our God. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name we pray and give thanks, Amen
